Restaurant Einar Ben is located in an old 18th century house right in the heart of Reykjavik..

Restaurant Einar Ben is named after one of the best known prior occupants of the premises (built in 1908).  This was the poet and entrepreneur Einar Ben 1864-1940.  He was one of Iceland’s most beloved poets as well as an entrepreneur, and showed enormous foresight in the early last century when he wanted to build Hydro Electric power plants to run railway’s, heavy industry and export electricity to the UK via a cable from Iceland to Scotland.  (A rumour says that he once sold the Northern lights).

Einar Ben was always very proud of being Icelandic and he had great belief in the potential of his country and country men. His pride is now our guide.

The cuisine of Einar Ben is a combination of the poetry and foresight of the man the restaurant is named after. All the basic raw material is Icelandic, from our local waters to our mountains where the lambs graze with the wild reindeers in the summer. Our wine list covers most of the main wine growing regions in the world, composed by one of Iceland’s most renowned sommeliers
